Still Life

We set up 2 still lifes: a vase with flowers and a bowl of fruit. I taught the kids the comparative method of drawing while studying our still life objects. Using the comparative method and our observation skills, we drew both still lifes with graphite on paper and colored our drawings using colored pencils.

Cranes

This week the kids did drawings of cranes in pencil. At first the kids thought that the picture looked hard to draw, but we broke it down into easy shapes… and our shapes turned into cranes! We used transfer paper to transfer our drawings onto cardstock and painted them with acrylics. The kids also painted a sheet of colored cardstock that became a frame for the crane paintings.

Apples

We talked about color and how to mix colors using the primary and secondary colors on the color wheel.  We then sketched 2 apples on primed canvas, practiced our color mixing, and painted the apples with acrylic paints.

Cherries

This week we talked about color and how to mix colors using primary and secondary colors on the color wheel.  I also taught the kids the sight-size method of drawing at the easels which train artists to accurately see and draw shapes.  The kids sketched 2 cherries with charcoal on primed canvas, practiced mixing colors, and then painted the cherries with acrylic paints.
